Skoda Superb B6 Canton Amplifier Procedure
Posted by ATD Admin on 5th Apr 2025
If you've recently installed a new aftermarket head unit in your Skoda Superb Mk2 (B6, 2008–2015) and suddenly found yourself with no sound, don’t panic—you haven’t broken anything.
This is a common issue in vehicles equipped with the Canton sound system. The problem lies not in your new radio, but in how the factory amplifier is triggered to turn on. Thankfully, there's a simple reset procedure that gets everything working again.
What Is the Skoda Canton Sound System?
The Canton sound system is Skoda’s premium factory audio upgrade, designed in collaboration with Canton, a respected German audio manufacturer. It’s an optional system found in models like the Superb, Octavia, and Kodiaq.
Key Features:
-
Up to 10–12 speakers, including a dedicated subwoofer (usually mounted in the spare wheel well).
-
A dedicated amplifier, often located in the boot (trunk), that powers the full speaker setup.
-
Tuned DSP (digital signal processing) for cleaner, richer sound tailored to the cabin.
-
Uses the CAN bus system to communicate with the factory infotainment unit (e.g., Columbus or Bolero head units).
Why You’ve Lost Sound
From the factory, the Skoda Superb Mk2’s Canton amplifier is configured to receive its power-on signal via the CAN bus system—this is how it knows the stock Columbus radio is turned on. However, most aftermarket radios don’t use CAN bus for this function. Instead, they rely on a more traditional +12V remote turn-on wire.
The amplifier doesn’t automatically detect this change in communication method, so it needs to be reset to recognize the new signal type.
The Fix: Resetting the Canton Amplifier
-
Disconnect the Battery
-
Use a 10mm spanner to disconnect the negative terminal.
-
Wait at least 35 minutes. This allows the amp to forget its CAN bus connection.
-
-
Install the New Head Unit
-
While waiting, install your new head unit if not already done.
-
Be sure the remote turn-on wire from the radio is connected (usually blue or blue/white).
-
-
Reconnect the Battery
-
After 35 minutes has elapsed, reconnect the battery.
-
Turn on the head unit—you should now have sound.
Dash Lights After Reconnection?
Seeing warning lights like engine or steering? Don’t panic.
Turn the steering wheel fully left, then fully right. This recalibrates the steering angle sensor. The lights will clear.
