The Mercedes-Benz C216 is the chassis designation for the second-generation CL-Class, a luxurious grand touring coupe based on the W221 S-Class platform. It was introduced in September 2006 and remained in production until September 2013. A facelift occurred in September 2010 for the 2011 model year, bringing revised front and rear styling, LED running lights, and significant interior and technology updates.

The infotainment system in the C216 was the COMAND-APS NTG3.0 in early models, which featured DVD-based navigation, voice control, and integration with an Audio Gateway (AGW) over a MOST fiber-optic network. In facelifted models, this was upgraded to COMAND-APS NTG3.5, which introduced a hard drive-based navigation system, faster processing, Gracenote music recognition, and Bluetooth audio streaming. Audio systems ranged from a standard 10-speaker setup to optional Harman/Kardon Logic 7 and the high-end Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG system.
