The Koleos was an addition to the Renault compact SUV market, after selling the Scénic RX4 and the Kangoo, but it has never produced a true crossover SUV. In August 2010, the Koleos was withdrawn from the United Kingdom, due to poor sales but elsewhere a facelifted Koleos was unveiled in July 2011.

The vehicle has a fitted single DIN head unit, which can be replaced with a single DIN with the aid of a fascia panel.
