The fourth-generation Prius was first shown during September 2015. This was the first generation of the Prius to use the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) modular platform, which provides a lower center of gravity and increased structural rigidity. In late November 2018, for the 2019 model year, the vehicle was given a facelift.

The pre-facelift models were fitted with the Touch 2 head unit. The facelift models were fitted with the Entune head unit.
