The second generation Tiguan (AD/BW) is built on the Volkswagen Group MQB A2 platform. The Tiguan Mk2 is available in two wheelbase variants: a short-wheelbase (SWB) version and a long-wheelbase (LWB) version with standard (or optional in some market) third-row seats, seating up to seven passengers.

The updated Tiguan was released on 30 June 2020, along with the introduction of the Tiguan R and Tiguan eHybrid.

The vehicle is fitted with a MIB/MIB2 system with a DIN head-unit in the glovebox with a separate 5.8", 6.5", 8" or 9.2" radio screen.
